Employees at this level serve as supervisors, technical experts, and trainers for laboratory analyses in an assigned area such as medical, environmental, forensic, animal health, agricultural, or materials testing, including the identification of program priorities and client needs. Employees have supervisory responsibilities over vocational and professional employees within the lab and input into setting a budget. Employee supervision includes hire recommendations, training, planning and assigning work, performance assessment, coaching, and progressive discipline. Supervision at this level also requires the employees to have the knowledge and skills to perform and review the work overseen.
Knowledge, skills & abilities
In addition to those identified in the previous levels: Knowledge of effective methods of supervision, staff training, and organization as applied to laboratory operations. Ability to provide leadership and supervision to professional, technical, vocational and other staff.
Typical qualifications
Bachelor’s degree and 2-5 years of relevant experience. (Substitutions may be allowed.)
