Regulatory Auditor

General summary

This is a first-level professional position accountable for performing routine inspections, complaint investigations, or audits of specific business practices and/or licensing compliance for entities or persons through interviews, records examination, field visits, and, occasionally, basic sample collection. Identification of compliance violations at this level are guided by established guidelines and procedures. At this level, employees may write investigative reports, negotiate compromise resolutions, issue appropriate penalties, and/or recommend further legal/disciplinary action. Employees at this level may require working knowledge of bookkeeping and accounting practices; general knowledge of the government’s role in the regulation, compliance, enforcement, and licensing of entities; and ability to conduct research.

Knowledge, skills & abilities

Knowledge of state and federal law, policy, procedures, codes, rules, and regulations applicable to the assigned program. Knowledge of the objectives, standards, operations, and practices of assigned programs. Knowledge of interviewing and investigative techniques. Ability to interpret, apply, and explain applicable statutes, rules, policies, and procedures. Ability to compile, present, and interpret reports and related data. Ability to travel extensively, operate a motor vehicle, and maintain a valid vehicle operator’s license. Ability to meet the physical demands of the position.

Typical qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and 0-1 year of relevant experience. (Substitutions may be allowed).
