This is a first-level professional position responsible for working under the supervision of a higher level professional to perform limited assignments of specific duties focused on maintaining compliance and providing technical support and problem resolution. Employees collect environmental data (e.g., water, waste water, soil, and air samples) and interpret lab results and/or perform basic statistical analysis of data to determine compliance with rules and regulations; investigate routine complaints of noncompliance; conduct preliminary review and evaluation of permit applications (including plans); and assist in preparing technical reports and documentation.
Knowledge of the basic principles within environmental/physical science, energy efficiency, or engineering. Ability to conduct routine and standardized inspections with minor environmental impact (e.g., open burning) and which are guided by established standards and procedures. Ability to identify potential problem areas and contribute to developing solutions.
Bachelor’s degree and 0-2 years of experience. (Substitutions may be allowed.)
