First-level supervisory position that controls, directs, and monitors activities and movement of offenders. Positions at this level are regularly assigned to the most critical posts and/or shifts. An employee performs various security activities and searches at external control points; reviews physical counts and reconciling issues; and in the absence of higher level authority, provides immediate direction during emergencies. May serve as Officer-In-Charge in absence of superior. At this level, employees are assigned lead work/administrative responsibilities in the maintenance of security in an institution or facility.
In addition to those identified in the previous levels: Skill in the use of weapons, physical immobilizing devices, and emergency equipment. Ability to exercise sound judgment and act quickly in an emergency situation. Ability to supervise and train staff in the performance of their duties.
3 or more years of corrections experience.
