Typical functions

The functions within this job family will vary by level, but may include the following:

  • Work to ensure the security and integrity of Missouri Lottery facilities, products, computer systems, drawings, events, and/or related operations.
  • Coordinate, install, and monitor security systems and services.
  • Conduct internal and external investigations involving players, retailers, vendors, and employees.
  • Maintain and test the security and integrity of the central gaming system and software.
  • Develop and implement security policies and procedures.

The work assigned to positions in this series ranges from direct responsibility for ensuring the security and integrity of Lottery facilities, products, drawings, events, and related operations to the oversight and supervision of these functions.

Lottery Security Specialist

This is a Lottery Security position accountable for overseeing specialized functions to ensure the security and integrity of Missouri Lottery facilities, products, drawings, events, and related operations. Work involves coordinating, installing, and monitoring security systems and services; conducting internal and external investigations; and developing and implementing security policies and procedures.

Knowledge, skills & abilities

Knowledge of statutes, regulations, policies, procedures, and operations of the Missouri Lottery; security systems, equipment, and techniques; investigative practices and procedures; and computer system security, maintenance, and testing.  Ability to develop, review, and implement policies and procedures to maintain the security and integrity of Lottery products and operations; conduct investigative interviews, gather evidence, prepare comprehensive reports, and provide court testimony; and travel extensively in the performance of assigned duties, lift up to 50 pounds, and be able to stand for several hours at a time.

Lottery Security Manager

This is a supervisory/managerial Lottery Security position accountable for overseeing lower-level positions to ensure the security and integrity of Missouri Lottery facilities, products, drawings, events and related operations. Oversees daily operations of the security unit and all investigations. Employee supervision includes recruitment, selection, hiring, training, work planning, assignments, performance assessment, coaching, and progressive discipline. At this level, employees may perform the full range of activities of the work overseen and ensure activities are performed according to procedures, policies, regulations, and goals.

Knowledge, skills & abilities

In addition to those identified in the previous level: Knowledge of the principles and techniques of effective supervision and training. Ability to supervise, train, and evaluate the work of assigned staff and coordinate efforts; and to analyze and evaluate policies and operations and formulate recommendations, manage change, and achieve results.
