Typical functions

  • Analyze data to identify customer needs.  
  • Prepare a variety of reports and recommend solutions.

The work assigned to positions in this series ranges from visiting clients and negotiating product sales to directing the marketing, promotional, and sales activities of the MVE program.

Correctional Industries Sales and Marketing Associate

This position is accountable for visiting clients and prospective clients, analyzing customers’ needs, negotiating product sales, and responding to requests for customer service. At this level, employees may also review purchase orders, investigate customer complaints and recommend possible solutions, and distribute product catalogs.

Knowledge, skills & abilities

Knowledge of Missouri Vocational Enterprises products, services, materials, and policies concerning manufacturing processes, product sales, and delivery. Ability to prepare and maintain records of customer contacts documenting customers’ present and future needs for vocational enterprises products and services. Ability to travel in the performance of assigned duties.

Typical qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent sales experience. (Substitutions may be allowed.)

Correctional Industries Marketing Specialist

This position is accountable for research, analysis, development, coordination, and implementation of new products and services in the Missouri Vocational Enterprises (MVE) program. Collects data from various sources on new or existing products or services to determine feasibility for incorporating products into the MVE program by analyzing impacts on production, costs, and the workforce. Prepares and maintains detailed reports concerning projected sales potentials, machinery and equipment costs, and inventory estimates for new products and services.

Knowledge, skills & abilities

In addition to those identified in the previous level: Knowledge of the principles and techniques of conducting market research and analysis. Ability to develop specifications and evaluate reliability of sources of materials and services.

Bachelor’s degree and 1-2 years of relevant experience. (Substitutions may be allowed.)

Correctional Industries Sales Supervisor

This is a supervisory position that is accountable for directing, planning, and coordinating sales activities for the MVE program and supervising and evaluating sales staff.  Activities at this level include analyzing and evaluating customer needs, overseeing and participating in customer sales visits, developing sales forecasts, and training staff on sales of products and services. Employee supervision includes hire recommendations, training, planning and assigning work, performance assessment, coaching, and progressive discipline. Supervision at this level also requires incumbents to have the knowledge and skills to perform and review the work overseen. 

Knowledge, skills & abilities

In addition to those identified in the previous levels: Knowledge of the practices of sales techniques. Ability to prepare and present effective sales information to customers.

Bachelor’s degree and 2 or more years of sales experience. (Substitutions may be allowed.)

Correctional Industries Sales and Marketing Manager

This is a senior level supervisor/managerial position accountable for directing the marketing, promotional, and sales activities of the MVE program. Reviews market analysis, analyzes sales and promotional efforts and other financial projections and reports, and coordinates design and preparation of product catalogs and webpages. Employee supervision includes hire recommendations, training, planning and assigning work, performance assessment, coaching, and progressive discipline.

Knowledge, skills & abilities

In addition to those identified in the previous levels: Ability to develop and maintaining marketing materials including product catalogs and webpages. Ability to develop and implement effective marketing strategies.

Bachelor’s degree and 2 or more years of experience in the MVE program. (Substitutions may be allowed.)
