Probation and Parole Supervisor

General summary

Supervisory position that supervises the activities for an assigned group of parole/probation officers who are involved in the case planning and management, supervision, and investigation and enforcement of all offender risk types. At this level employees also implement best practices and provide input into the development of procedures and policies. Employee supervision includes hire recommendations, training, planning and assigning work, performance assessment, coaching, and progressive discipline. Supervision at this level also requires the knowledge and skills to perform the work overseen, approve reports and warrant requests, and conduct caseload audits. Performing case management activities for all offender risk types requires field observation and contact through scheduled and unscheduled visits at their home or place of employment. May involve day-to-day administration of a parole/probation office.

Knowledge, skills & abilities

In addition to those identified in the previous levels: Knowledge of major social agencies operating in the community. Knowledge of policies and procedures and ability to make improvement recommendations. Ability to train and direct staff in effective work methods. Ability to prepare, and/or supervise the preparation of, accurate and complete case records and reports. 

Typical qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and 2-4 years of relevant experience. (Substitutions may be allowed.)
