General summary

This is a first-level non-commissioned supervisory position accountable for supervising the activities of all investigator levels within an assigned unit who are involved in investigation activities of a variety of potential crimes and criminal activity or administrative/regulatory violations. This includes statewide investigations of cases that are often sensitive in nature, unprecedented, and may involve political implications and repercussions. Employee supervision includes hire recommendations, training, planning and assigning work, performance assessment, coaching, and progressive discipline. Supervision at this level also requires these jobs to have the knowledge and skills to perform the work overseen and the ability to assess equipment needs and effectiveness and recommend purchases. Work may include testifying at court or in hearings.

Typical qualifications

Bachelor’s degree, 3 or more years of relevant experience, and relevant certification/licensure.
