General summary

This is a vocational-level position accountable for taking verbatim notes of testimony in administrative proceedings using a stenotype machine or other reporting equipment. An employee at this level is accountable for marking exhibits introduced as evidence, maintaining evidence in a secure place, and incorporating exhibits into case papers.

Knowledge, skills & abilities

Knowledge of courtroom operations and procedures. Knowledge of the principles and practices of court reporting. Knowledge of legal and medical terminology, grammar, punctuation, and spelling. Ability to maintain certification as a court reporter in accordance with the Missouri State Board of Certified Court Reporter Examiners. Ability to take verbatim courtroom testimony with a high degree of accuracy. Ability to focus and work under high pressure.

Typical qualifications

Current certification as a court reporter.
