General summary

This is a supervisory position accountable for operational oversight of professional teams and technical experts in geoscience disciplines, that serves as the registered geologist in responsible charge. Focus is on the design, planning, implementation, and management of a statewide program, requiring significant multi-disciplinary coordination. Employees are considered to be statewide experts in their field; assignments are complex due to the variables involved requiring the development of unique solutions to environmental/natural resource/geologic problems. Technical documents are prepared/reviewed and professionally sealed to ensure reliability when having a possible impact upon public health, safety, and welfare. Duties will also include sharing information and influencing issues at the national level and writing and evaluating legislation. Employee supervision includes hire recommendations, training, planning, and assigning work, performance assessment, coaching, mentoring, and progressive discipline.

Knowledge, skills & abilities

In addition to those identified at the previous level: Skill in the interpretation of legislative/regulatory processes and applicable laws and rules. Ability to recommend budget items and work within budget constraints. Ability to direct, supervise, and evaluate the work of others. Ability to mentor, coach, develop skills, and oversee technical geoscience work of staff. Ability to manage multiple work activities. 

Typical qualifications

Licensure as a Geologist registered in the State of Missouri and 4-6 years of relevant experience. (Substitutions may be allowed.)
