Economic Development Manager

General summary

This is a managerial position accountable for administrative and management work directing, planning, analyzing, and coordinating community and economic development programs in the following areas: community development, business development, national and international marketing, workforce development, public housing, and tourism. Employees at this level oversee statewide economic and business development programs and projects, define scope of projects, and develop project budgets. Such positions are responsible for the oversight of public relations and communications and may also direct, supervise, and evaluate the work of assigned staff.

Knowledge, skills & abilities

In addition to those identified in the previous levels: Knowledge of economic, political, social, geographic, and cultural factors which affect community and economic development programs. Ability to review, analyze, interpret, and/or prepare state and federal laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures pertaining to the assigned community and/or economic development program.

Typical qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and 5 or more years of relevant experience. (Substitutions may be allowed.)
