Counselor-in-Training

General summary

This is a trainee-level professional position responsible for counseling work of a therapeutic nature performed under the direct supervision and instruction of a Licensed Professional Counselor, psychologist, or psychiatrist.  Employees at this level perform a variety of professionally supervised tasks including assessment, admission, client counseling, prognosis, placement, treatment, and/or discharge planning functions.

Knowledge, skills & abilities

Knowledge of the  biological, cognitive-affective, and social bases of behavior; counseling theories and techniques; and the scientific methods and procedures of understanding, predicting, and influencing human behavior such as statistics, experimental design, and psychometrics.  Ability to assist in conducting individual or group interventions; and administer, score, and offer preliminary interpretations of test results.

Typical qualifications

Possession of a provisional license as a Counselor-in-Training.
