General summary

This is first-level nutritionist work in the provision of nutrition services, primarily through public health clinics.  Acts with independence in being accountable for the collection and assessment of anthropometric data.  Accountable for the creation of individual meal plans and oversight of food preparation.  Provides consultation to clients on how to lead healthier lifestyles and prevent/manage health issues related to nutrition.  Participates in nutritional health improvement clinics and the administration of nutrition programs.

Knowledge, skills & abilities

Knowledge of the principles and practices of nutrition and food, particularly in relation to health and disease. Knowledge of current developments in public health nutrition and their application to statewide and/or local nutrition programs.  Ability to use and develop educational materials for the nutrition education of individuals and groups.

Typical qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline and 2-3 years of experience as a nutritionist.
