Senior Human Rights Officer

General summary

This is a senior professional position responsible for training, supervising, and reviewing the work of human rights officers, or investigating and preparing investigation summaries and recommending findings on highly sensitive and complex cases. At this level, employees manage, coordinate, and review the investigation of civil rights complaints and the negotiation of settlements, or investigate complex cases in a geographic area of the state. In addition, employees may participate in the development and presentation of human rights training, workshops, and seminars. 

Knowledge, skills & abilities

In addition to those identified in the previous level:  Knowledge of negotiation practices. Skill in interpreting and applying civil rights statutes and regulations.  Skill in investigation processes and negotiation techniques.  Skill in communication and interpersonal interactions. Ability to provide supervision, guidance, and leadership to staff.

Typical qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and 2-3 years of relevant experience. (Substitutions may be allowed.)
