Vocational Enterprises Operations

Description

Jobs in this family work in the production, shipping, distribution, and warehousing of raw materials and products in the Missouri Vocational Enterprises (MVE) program.

Typical functions

The functions within this job family will vary by level, but may include the following:

  • Train and oversee the work of offenders.
  • Inspect work to ensure conformance with standards.
  • Maintain records of time worked and material used.

The work assigned to positions in this series ranges from training and overseeing work of offenders to directing and overseeing the production, shipping, and distribution of products throughout the state.

Correctional Industries Supervisor

First-level supervisory position responsible for training and overseeing the work of offenders in the performance of various enterprise related tasks, and maintenance of equipment and materials used. Employees inspect work-in-progress for conformance with quality standards and efficiency of operations, and check machines and equipment for proper operation and maintenance.

Knowledge, skills & abilities

Knowledge of equipment, materials, processes, and practices utilized in assigned vocational enterprise operation. Ability to supervise and train offenders in various vocational enterprises operations.

Typical qualifications

High School diploma or equivalent and 2 years of work experience. (Substitutions may be allowed.)

Senior Correctional Industries Supervisor

Second-level supervisory position responsible for planning and organizing production assignments; supervising and training skilled and semi-skilled offenders in the performance of various enterprise related tasks; and maintaining equipment and materials used. Maintains records regarding time and materials used and type of work performed for documentation and billing purposes.

Knowledge, skills & abilities

In addition to those identified in the previous level: Knowledge of precautionary measures to be taken to avoid occupational hazards in an industry operation. Ability to estimate material requirements, establish timeframes, and maintain records.

High School diploma or equivalent and 2 years of relevant experience (Substitutions may be allowed.)

Correctional Industries Manager

This is a managerial position responsible for directing and overseeing the production, shipping, and distribution of vocational enterprises products and the transportation of raw materials to governmental agencies throughout the state. Responsible for warehousing operations, inventory management, space utilization, and stored finished goods. Employees at this level prepare budgets, compute job costs, and assign and monitor job orders and work schedules. Employee supervision includes hiring decisions, training oversight, performance assessment, coaching, and progressive discipline. Supervision at this level also requires these jobs to have the knowledge and skills to perform and review the work overseen.

Knowledge, skills & abilities

In addition to those identified in the previous levels: Knowledge of budget preparation and inventory management. Ability to analyze production processes and make modifications. 

Typical qualifications

High School diploma or equivalent, 4 or more years of relevant experience, and 1-2 years of supervisory experience. (Substitutions may be allowed.)
